What this tool does
Adds up the reference value of several gold and silver items, each with its own weight and purity.
When to use it
Use it to value a mixed lot — for example a set of rings, a silver bracelet and a gold chain.
What each input means
- Items
- Add one row per item: metal, weight, unit and purity.
Formula and method
- For each item: value = weight × purity × (spot ÷ 31.1034768) × exchange rate
- Total = sum of item values
Worked example
Illustration with round numbers (not current prices): gold 100.00 and silver 1.00 USD per gram of pure metal.
- 10 g of 24K gold = 1,000 USD
- 100 g of 999 silver = 99.90 USD
Total ≈ 1,099.90 USD
Limitations
- Reference value only.
- Platinum and palladium are not yet supported because the market-data feed provides gold and silver only.
Data sources, update times and handling of stale data are described in the calculator methodology.
Frequently asked questions
Why is this different from my local jeweller’s rate?
This tool shows a reference value from the international spot price. Local rates add dealer premiums, import costs, taxes, making charges and association rates, and they follow local supply and demand. Treat the result as a baseline for comparison, not a price you will be quoted.
