What this tool does
Converts the international gold spot price (quoted per troy ounce in US dollars) into a price per gram, 10 grams, tola, troy ounce or kilogram, adjusted for the karat you choose and shown in your currency.
When to use it
Use it to see what a unit of gold of a given purity is worth at the reference price before you compare quotes, plan a purchase or price a piece of jewelry.
What each input means
- Currency
- The currency to show prices in. Rates come from the same stored market snapshot as the gold price.
- Gold purity
- Karat (24K = pure) or a custom fineness in parts per thousand.
- Highlight unit
- The unit shown as the main result. The table always lists every unit.
Formula and method
- Price per gram (pure) = spot price per troy ounce ÷ 31.1034768
- Price per unit = price per gram × purity factor × exchange rate × grams in the unit
- Purity factor = karat ÷ 24 (for example 22K = 22 ÷ 24 = 0.9167)
- 1 tola = 11.6638038 g (3/8 of a troy ounce)
Worked example
Illustration with round numbers (not a current price): pure gold at 100.00 USD per gram.
- 21K purity factor = 21 ÷ 24 = 0.875
- One tola = 11.6638038 g
- Price per tola = 100 × 0.875 × 11.6638038 = 1,020.58 USD
≈ 1,020.58 USD per tola of 21K gold
Limitations
- This is a reference price, not a dealer, bank or local-market rate.
- Prices exclude premiums, making charges, taxes and wastage.
- The value is only as current as the timestamp shown with it.
Data sources, update times and handling of stale data are described in the calculator methodology.
Frequently asked questions
Why is this different from my local jeweller’s rate?
This tool shows a reference value from the international spot price. Local rates add dealer premiums, import costs, taxes, making charges and association rates, and they follow local supply and demand. Treat the result as a baseline for comparison, not a price you will be quoted.
How many grams are in a tola?
This site uses 1 tola = 11.6638038 g, which equals 3/8 of a troy ounce. Some local markets round a tola to 11.664 g or 11.66 g, which is why small differences appear between sources.
What is a troy ounce?
The unit precious metals are quoted in: 31.1034768 grams, heavier than the 28.35 g avoirdupois ounce used for everyday goods.
