How Currency Conversion Works in Metal Price Calculators

Precious metals are quoted in US dollars. To show a price in rupees, euros or dirhams, the calculator multiplies by an exchange rate taken from a separate data source.

The calculation

Price in your currency = price in USD × units of your currency per 1 USD. A cross rate, such as euro to rupee, goes through the dollar: amount × (rate of target ÷ rate of source).

Where the rates come from

Rates come from an exchange-rate data provider and are stored with the time the provider published them. Many free rate feeds update once a day, so the time shown matters more than the digits.

Reference rates are not transfer rates

Banks and money-transfer services add a margin and fees. The converter shows a mid-market style reference rate, not what a bank will give you.

When rates are stale

If the latest rate is too old, the site says so and limits results to USD instead of using an outdated rate silently.
